Frequently Asked Questions for Fridays
My student is required to come on Friday, what does that look like?
Your student will come to school and head to their SOAR class. In SOAR, they will get their schedule that has the required classes that they need to attend and which sessions they are required. The student is free to go to enrichments on the other sessions.
Why is my student required?
Usually it’s because of a failing grade, missing work, or excessive tardies or absences. The best way to figure out why is to login into the Parent Powerschool (sd251powerschool.org) to check their grades. If you don’t remember your login please call the front office and we can tell it to you.
Can my student go home after their required session?
Yes! Your student can go home as soon as they are finished.
Will the required class be the first session on Friday?
Not always, there are a couple of reasons for this. The group sizes are smaller on Friday, so sometimes not all of the students who need help can be in the first session. The other reason is because we need some teachers free that session to offer enrichments to the students who are not required.
My student is required, but won’t be there. What do we do?
Please call in and Parent Verify your student. It will count as an absence.
If my student wants to come for just one session to get help, can they do that?
Yes! However, we can’t guarantee that they can get in during the first block. Friday classes are smaller and sometimes they fill up. Your student can join the first session that is open and then head home after that session.
My student is not required, but wants to come for enrichments. What do they do?
Have your student check in at the front office. They put their name on a paper so that the office can mark them “present” and then they get a blank schedule. They’ll take that blank schedule to their SOAR class to fill out with the Enrichments or homework help that they want to attend.
